Why Active Listening Isn’t Enough: Listening Habits for Coaches
Speaker: Dr. Laura Ann Janusik Register here!!
Date: Tuesday, May 24, 2022
Time: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM CST
Location: Metropolitan Ballroom, Golden Valley
CEU's: 1.5 Core Competency and .5 Resource Development
Description:
Undoubtedly, asking questions and active listening are two core competencies of effective coaching. However, active listening is only part of the answer.
Many don’t realize that listening is primarily a cognitive activity since it is perceived as a behavior. How much do you understand how meaning is made? Some of the latest listening research has identified four habits of listening. If listening is a habit, then we have more control over how we do it by using our brains.
Even though listening is important, only 2% of the population has had training to improve their listening skills. Much of this training focuses on nonverbal aspects of listening, but neglects the cognitive part where meaning is made.
Join Dr. Laura Ann Janusik, who has devoted over 20 years of her researching, teaching, and training humans to be better listeners. She will help us see listening in new ways to increase our coaching effectiveness!
