Bev Lutz ICF membership provides incredible professional networking opportunities, professional and personal growth, and opportunities to explore my strengths as I volunteer in service of my profession.  My chapter really helps me stay current with coaching, thought leadership, and learn-n-earn (CEU’s) from professional development events.  But it’s the supportive coach-friends and collaborators who have made membership for me priceless. //s3.amazonaws.com/ClubExpressClubFiles/907122/graphics/BevLutz1_669008720.jpg

Irene Kelly

Being a member of ICF offers me the opportunity for certification by the industry professional standard bearer; being a member of ICF Minnesota connects me to my professional peers for networking and collaboration.  Membership in both establishes me as “credible” and provides me opportunities to learn and grow.

Meet the Coach with Ann Houser

1. What brought you to coaching?

Several years ago, friends at Medtronic participated in an internal coach training program created in partnership with Jeff Staggs and delivered through the Coactive Training Institute. They had so much fun and seemed be transformed in their energy, impact and love of the work. I wanted to get some of that “wow” in my life. I joined the next coach training cadre. After leaving Medtronic as a VP HR, I started my own executive coaching business less than 2 years ago.

2. Tell us about your coaching practice.(Niche, ideal client, etc.)

Since I have extensive executive experience, I focus primarily on global executive coaching at the senior management level. I also coach global high potential employees to accelerate their development as well as individuals experiencing a crossroads or change in their business or personal life. In all instances, we consider the future possibilities. I love to work with clients who have a sincere desire to elevate their leadership skills or personal capabilties, are open to their growth and development, and seek healthier behaviors and lifestyles.

3. What do you love about your coaching work?

I love watching a client gain a major “aha” which often happens between our coaching sessions. It’s so fun to see a client light up through their growth and learning, as they approach the world with more insight, awareness and focus.

4. Tell us about the coaching tools, books, podcasts, etc. that you follow that helps you to stay informed.

Mary Olk turned me on to a great coaching tool. It’s Mary Nelson-Garrison’s Open-Ended Questions for Coaching Mastery. This is a small box of coaching question cards organized by 3 categories: Simple and Curious, Expanding Awareness and Taking Action. It’s especially helpful for new coaches to have these cards on hand.

I’m enjoying two books:

1) David Drake’s Narrative Coaching: The Definitive Guide to Bringing New Stories to Life to understand how our personal storytelling impacts how we see ourselves.

2) Lance Hazzard recently published a great book for organizations seeking to embed executive coaching internally, called Accelerating Leadership.

5. How has ICF-MN helped you as a coach?

ICF-MN members love coaching and learning to be better coaches. I have found the strong professional development programs and webinars to be extremely helpful. The coaching connection events allow me to meet other great coaches in the local area. It’s a terrific community!

6. How can folks connect with you?

Let me know if you’re interested in connecting over coffee or wine at annhouser@annhouserconsulting.com or on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/annhouser/ or my website www.annhouserconsulting.com

Meet the Coach

Zuhui Lu pic

Meet the Coach withZihui Lu

Hello! My name is Zihui Lu. You can also call me Zoe.

I’m originally from China, and received my PhD degree in psychology from the University of Toronto.

1. What brought you to coaching?

I moved to Minnesota in 2014 with my husband and my son, who was only 6 months old back then. I was a stay-at-home mom. Although I enjoyed being with my baby a lot, I felt something was missing. Who was I besides being a wife and a mother? How could I make an impact on the world?

In 2015 I learned about life coaching. The profession sounded both familiar and new to me. It was familiar because I was a psychotherapist before. But coaches work with people who are resourceful and help people to move to action, which sounded really exciting. So, I received my coach training from MentorCoach, and became a coach.

2. Tell us about your coaching practice.

My personal experience as a mom helped me realize what a hard job being a mom is. Yes, we have washing machines nowadays. But we also need to balance career, family, and self-care, which is usually not easy. We also need to maintain a good relationship with our partner, discipline kids with love, and manage our emotions. A lot of moms can really use some professional help from a coach.

Therefore, I have worked with more than 150 women so far, most of whom are moms. I coach both in Chinese and English.

3. What do you love about your coaching work?

I really enjoy my coaching work because I like the deep connection with my clients. I love to see my clients’ improvement in their marriage, parenting, personal growth, and career.

My mission is to make a positive impact on people’s lives, and two of my core values are Love and Authenticity. I’m grateful that my coaching work aligns with my mission and core values!

4. Tell us about the coaching tools, books, podcasts, etc. that you follow that helps you to stay informed.

Tools: Wheel of Life

Books: Marilyn Atkinson’s books; Co-Active Coaching

Podcast: The Life Coach School podcast

5. How has ICF-MN helped you as a coach?

I love the talks and webinars that ICF-MN offered. They are high quality.

Being a Mirror member, I have learned a lot from the Mirror team. Together with the Mirror team and ICF-MN, I look forward to making coaching more available to people of all races, cultures and ethnicities.

Trish has been a great mentor to me. I feel so grateful to know her!
