Book Review from Cheryl Hegland
Have you ever wondered how you could approach life’s challenges with a more positive mindset rather than a negative one? Wondered how to improve your performance, relationships, and wellbeing? If so, check out the New York Times Bestseller book, Positive Intelligence, by Shirzad Chamine. In addition to being an author, Shirzad Chamine is the Founder and CEO of Positive Intelligence, Inc, Chairman Emeritus and former CEO of CTI, the largest coach-training organization in the world, and a lecturer at Stanford.
This book defines and explains the Positive Intelligence operating system that was developed by Shirzad Chamine. Initially, the book defines Positive Intelligence, the Positive Intelligence Quotient (PQ), and three strategies to improve PQ. The book then dives into each of the three strategies to improve PQ. In addition, it contains instructions for measuring progress and a large section with several real-world application case studies. Lastly, there is an Appendix and plenty of endnotes for those who want to dive into the science even further.
I first read this book in 2013 and spent the better part of 6 months sharing tidbits from it with friends and colleagues. In 2020, in the midst of the COVID pandemic, I was re-introduced to the latest edition. The concepts continue to appeal to me with the added benefit of being easy to share with others. The balance of research and data is refreshing and offers engaging anecdotes and case studies. It was a quick and fun read!
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in developing their self-awareness in order to improve their mindset. I believe coaches would find it especially enlightening and useful with their clients.
